Memory seat oddity - anyone else?

Featured Replies

I've been struggling to get a long-term confortable seating position in my new car and I've just realised the drivers seat seems to be adjusting itself which is throwing out my efforts to get it dailed in.  Anyone esle seeing this?

  1. Set seat to desired position
  2. Hold set for 3 seconds
  3. Press 1 button
  4. Bong!
  5. Press 1 button
  6. Seat shuffles forward half an inch
  7. Press 1 button again
  8. Seat shuffles forward half an inch
  9. Press 1 button a third time... and nothing

Can't be right.

2. Press Set

3. Press 1 until you hear signal.

But I believe you must assign first you key to get settings stored to the fob. Was somewhere in the Car settings.

Don't think I have that.  Certainly don't have the third key.  I do get to choose a driver when I turn on the ignition (but it's always set to me anyway).   Even with memory asignment to a key, I presume it isn't correct that the seat behave in this fashion?

On my superb 3

To recall a stored position, press and hold the desired button until the seat finishes adjusting to the final position.

From the owners manual.

Right, when driving, you must hold 1 until the seat finishes moving. The same goes, if the car is not moving, but the engine is running.

Only when the engine is not running and the door is open, a short press will be enough.

I'll need to try it again with the drivers door open, however it's behaving as if the stored position isn't correct?  Does having the door open effect storing too?

It's easy peasy but could be confusing reading above replies.  As linni wrote above...

1. press SET button once.

2. To store current position, hold down one of the numbered buttons until you hear a bong.

And that's all there is to it !

Note:  The above driver's door business is only when the ignition is off.

So if you want to test it out - move the seat backwards or forwards, raise or lower the height, adjust the lumbar so it's uncomfortable then either...

With the ignition on - hold down the button number used to store your seat position until the seat stops moving. Hey presto, that's the position you set

or

With the ignition off, open drivers door, press the button number used to store your set position ( no need to hold the button as with ignition on ) and seat should move.

Key personalisation is a red herring - has no effect on the above operations.

Ok, so making allowance for RTFM and my fat fingers I can confirm that my drivers seat works as described above (i.e. with regard to single press recall working only with ignition off and drivers door open).  That explains that bit about the seat schooching forwards a bit every time I press the recall button 1 whilst the ignition is on.

What still isn't correct is that I set the seat possition fully back in memory 1 and when I then recall memory 1 (via either the hold or single press methods depending on ignition/drivers door) the seat shuffles forward about half an inch.  It's like something isn't quite calibrated correctly. None of the other adjustments change in any perceptible way, It's just the seat for and aft position.  Once it's moved to the incorrect stored position it then doesn't move (again) if memory 1 is recalled again.  Is this just my car?

Please insert jokes about half an inch making no difference here... 😜

Reads like settings won’t store if seat is fully at end position.

Thank you for sharing.  I've also read on VWVortex forums that VW seats (which are almost certainly the same) wont store the last 50mm of travel.  What I do find confusing is that if if try to store in one of these 'disallowed' configurations you still get the chime indicating that it's been stored OK.  Anywho, at least I know now.
