  1. Can see where you're coming from but as per above, the first year tax was paid by the first owner. You'll be £190 for a full 12mth ( lucky ur picking up car on the 1st of the month ) I didn't realise until now it'd gone up again to £190. It feels like this rotten government have a mini budget every few months !
  2. I love people's use of terminology. They twist facts simply to support their own biased views. Post brexit it's 'waving thru any old crap'. Pre-brexit there weren't any checks,so wasn't the same 'old crap' coming in to the country then? i.e. nothing has changed. When you say 'old crap', exactly what products are you're referring to?
  3. Well in my case, a different steering wheel and upgraded infotainment software hardly required a test drive ! A drive in the pre-facelifted Edition model with the same engine as my Sportline was all anyone needed to know exactly what the car would be like. If I were going for this new Kodiaq, I'd order without a test drive. It's not as if the engines are any different or there's a change to the suspension setup or the gearbox - it's essentially the very same car in different clothes. Let's face it, the biggest change only comes with the price and option list. As for it's just because you can say “look what I’ve got” I'm not saying that's why some people may chose it, but manufacturers have a habit of announcing upgrades when your car is already on order. The only reason I ordered a Kodiaq was because Skoda introduced a 2wd Sportline version ( at the time all Sportlines were at least 2L 4wd ).I didn't even realise it was a facelift. Or what if you're after a PHEV Kodiaq? You could say the same about folk who buy new cars - are they only buying it to keep up with the neighbours for a reg plate change? Some will but I'd suggest the majority don't, especially those who's current leases are about to end.
  4. I wonder how long it'd take the police to charge someone who purchased a £100k motorhome using club money which no club member, not even the treasurer, knew about and hid err I mean parked it on their mothers driveway? Well when I say no club member, it's almost certain one other did - his wife. ( FFS ! ) It supposedly sat there for 2yr unused ! Pehaps Pete's using the same excuse as Father Ted ? "The money was just resting in my bank account". And I'm looking at their home. It's a nice house in an ordinary neighbourhood, but it's hardly Gracelands. What I really mean is, it's not exactly a home where you'd say the owner had so much cash that they could lend £107,620 to their employer. His immediate family perhaps, but to their employer! Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, it's just I can't believe how long it's taken to charge him given what we've been told.
  5. Do you? I think your standards are pretty low. I can't speak for anyone elses Kodiaq but the build quality on mine is such you need some force to edge the trim away from the carpet which means that even if you could get a cable under it ( it would have to be bell wire size ) there's a good chance of it being pinched. Besides, if it's a half decent camera, the cabling will be shielded so can't see it being thin. ( it would need to be shielded if it's running alongside existing car wiring ). OMG. If it is the door sill trims they're talking about then they're either complete idiots or what's more likely, they're fobbing you off. Of course they can be removed, it'd be a pretty stupid design if they couldn't ! Take a look at your seat belt. If there was an issue with your seatblet, how could the mechanics access it without removing that plastic trim ? 🤪 It just pops out. in fact it's easier to remove the trim than what skomaz suggested by tucking a cable under it. Most VW products are pretty much the same: Mk7 Golf sill trim removal Edit: Many folk complain about VW products but this is one area where you can see where the money goes. You can normally remove this trim panels many times without any sign of wear and tear. I installed a dashcam on a Toyota we bought last year and whereas they have a reputation for reliability, you ain't going to remove those panels many times - the plastics they use are cheap and nasty. Yes, it's very, very easy to tuck cabling under trim on a Toyota. FFS, some of the panels are held in place with plastic nut and bolts ! Remove the panels and you can see why Japanese cars are generally more reliable in the way the car is constructed, but the plastic trim itself 😲 Give me a VW product anyday.
  6. Ordinary people 😲 You weren't guest speaker at yesterdays National Conservatism Conference in Brussels by any chance?
  7. The nuclear deterrent. Here we go again, another instance where having a nuclear weapon is no deterrent whatsoever. Israel is one of the few nuclear countries, in fact it's the only country in the middle east with Nuclear capabilities. It didn't stop Saddam from launching scud missles. which at the time the scaremongers said were equipped with chemical warheads, and it never stopped Iran from launching 300 missiles and dronesthe other day. For the past 40 years I've been trying to work out the point of spending billions on nuclear weapons and I'm no nearer an answer. We've cut down on personel and equipment yet keep spending money on a weapon we can't use. 🤪. Can someone please explain to me the point of having a nuclear weapon? If it was a deterrent, then logically wouldn't it make sense to equip every country with a nuclear weapon? The only positive thing to come from nuclear weapons was Dr Strangelove - one of my favorite films.
  8. Where exactly are they mounting the rear dashcam? What sills are they talking about? I've installed the wiring for the factory rearview camera. Just pull off the plastic surround on the hatch, feed wires thru sleeve in to body of the car ( which is the trickiest part of the operation). With the factory rearview camera, the instructions were such I routed the cabling it as if it were installed in the factory, but if it's just a 6m cable for a 3rd party rear dashcam, if it were me I'd Just pull the trim off, feed the wire down the C pillar, go down to the boot and tuck it under the carpet along to the A pillar and then do what you have to do to hook it up to your front camera. I certrainly wouldn't be going anywhere near a main dealer as it's labour intensive, the whole operation took me a day, I'd have thought any reputable camera installation supplier would be able to do that much quicker. After all the Kodiaq is no different from any other VW product - I'd be asking if they've ever installed a rear camera into a VW or Audi? It's not as if they're rare ! It's all straightforward, just need some decent trim removal tools and plenty of patience. One of the sponsors on Briskoda is https://eastyorkshireretrofits.co.uk/ Perhaps they can help you out / see if they have a local installer near you that can do the work?
  9. You're right I mis-read part of it but... ' It turned out that his insurer had paid out two claims made by the owners of cars his Alfa Romeo had collided with before the ultimate crash ' That's what I mean by I cannot understand why his insurers paid out. In the above case, I would have thought the 3rd parties insurance would have paid out to their clients and then when it's finally determined whoi caused they accident, it's the iliable driver's insurance who refund the 3rd parties insurers. - i.e. it would be Halfords (Aviva ) who pay. I can't understand why the Alfa drivers insurance has paid out two claims.
  10. Just reading about Iran directing 200-300 weapons towards Israel in the past 24hr. ( depends on what report you read as to how many drones an missiles there were ). I don't condone any retaliation against innocent people, but just thinking about the seemingly double standards we have in protecting innocent human life. As I understand it, Israel attacted the Iranian embassy in Damascus at the beginning of this month, in effect an attack on another countries soil. We in the West appear to have accepted that attack. The UN takes no action against Israel. The Iranians then launch a counter attack on Israel. I'm reading reports this morning that UK fighter jets helped to shoot down Iranian missiles bound for Israel. If that means saving innocent israeli lives then I'm all for it, that's what we should be doing. The problem is why are we happy to shoot down incoming Iranian missiles, but so against our jets shooting down incoming Russian missiles? Is an innocent Israeli more important than an innocent Ukranian? Neither Ukraine nor Israel are part of NATO so what justification do we have choosing one country over another?
  11. Apparantly in Liz Truss's upcoming memoirs about her 44 days in office, she's defended her disasterous mini-budget. She said the afternoon after which Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng outlined the growth plan was "probably my happiest moment as prime minister" adding "I was ecstatic". I can only assume politicians like Liz Truss and those electorate who continue to support her, must be mentally ill.
  12. I don't know how the insurance works in that instance, but it makes no sense to me. Assuming the driver of the Alfa ( Halfords employee ) was found to be at fault then I'm confused. Unless you specifically name a driver on your policy, or have an ' Any driver policy' ( do those even exist these days ? ) then wouldn't the policy resort to 3rd party fire and theft? So how come the Alfa owners insurance is paying ou the market value of the car if the driver at the time wasn't named on the policy? 🤪 It sounds as if it's being treated as if the Halfords driver ( or whoever was responsible ) had crashed in to the owners car. In that case, his insurer has paid out and any additional losses would be claimed against the 3rd party insurer in normal fashion. So what's the problem? I wouldn't trust that press article as far as I could throw it as they're only interested in sensationalisim - anything that makes headlines. In reality there's no story. Why did his insurance rise £300? Why does anyones insurance rise? Nobody, not even his insurance broker can pinpoint why it's risen by £300. They're just guessing.
  13. Are you saying your typical driving will be city / short trips and you intend to change from fixed to variable servicing?
  14. My tuppence worth is if anyone is at the stage they need to ask if a tyre needs changin die to tread depth, then it does. Here in the UK, the legal min. is 1.6mm. That's not to say a 1.6mm tyre will perform the same as a 3mm tyre, it just says the min is 1.6mm. Personallly I'd never let my tyres down to that depth. Surely the only arguement for keeping them is based on cost?
