Idle fluctuating after oil change

Featured Replies

Ok, I'm an old boy here ( nearly 70). I always do my own oil & filter changes.

I have done the oil change twice on my 20 plate Vrs and both times, on re-starting, the engine idle has raced/fluctuated. The first time it stopped after I'd run it round the block. This time, it's still doing it after 20 miles......

It's only ever done it these two times, immediately after oil & filter change.

Any ideas please ?

Either dipstick not put in fully or oil cap loosly put back on would be the most obvious culprits I can think of.

Thank you. Gave it a 20 min run, was still doing it and then the epc light camo on. Uh- oh thought I, booked it into the dealer for nxt Monday. Got up this morning, totally rectified itself, running sweet as a nut and epc light gone off! Weird, but well happy. Thanks for your reply/input. Cheers.

Should be a dtc stored. Doesn't sound normal. I do all servicing on my golf r, no funny idle after oil change. I just did it as well. Very similar engine to yours based on gen3 ea888 in both cars... assuming yours is petrol...

Thanks but problem sorted itself.

Running perfectly now - done 60 miles sweet as a nut, no warning lights.

Thanks anyway.

Yes.ok. Good. But why.......   if it is still under warranty I'd take it in for diagnostic read.

Doing an oil change yourself. Won't that invalidate the warranty?

Potentially make it very tricky, unless doing the scheduled services at Skoda or another independent with receipts to spec.  I only buy cars over 3 years..... All I can afford for one,  servicing options another.... depreciation already incurred another...

@ords

Only if you do not have the Services carried out to the Manufacturers Recommendations @ a VAT registered establishment etc etc to the Warranty T&C's.

Nothing says you can not service or do oil changes between Oil & Filter changes 'to the manufacturers recommendations.
