MK2 drivers door window regulator removal, where I can't move glass up to remove pins

Hi everyone.

I had an issue with my driver's side window regulator, it was wound down and then fail to wind back up. It goes a couple of inches and makes some graunching noises and then goes back down. I have ordered a new regulator on a new panel, but looking at all the instructions, they all talk about lining up the plastic pins with the hole near the top of the panel, mine will not do that. So does anyone have any hints or insight into getting the regulator out with the glass still in it?
