Intercooler or not ??

Featured Replies

Evening all.... I've been offered an intercooler which a guy bought for his golf but upgraded... he didn't end up fitting it and he's offered it me at a good price... my question is...would I benefit from it ???... I've read they can cause lag while still running k03 but this guy reckons it's a standard size one so he said I wouldn't have that issue.. does this sound right????.

only pic I have is attached.... cheers

@Okvrsmk1 It's only worth doing if the car is mapped to suit. If you're just stage 1, then it's not needed. If you plan to go stage 2, then it would be recommended to upgrade.

However, that looks like one of the smaller sized intercoolers, which really won't help with cooling over the standard unit.

These engines would benefit from one of the larger kits.

I use a THS twin pass as it keeps everything hidden and, neat and doesn't involve cutting.
Darkside Developments - Darkside Upgraded Front Mount Intercooler Kit (FMIC) for 1.9 TDI VE 90 / 110 / PD100 & PD115

This is all from comments/suggestions from here and tuning companies. But, I feel a lot is trial and error. As even people have told me not to use a twin pass.

So in essence, you can try it. But, a kit designed for an Octavia would be of more a benefit.

Thank you for advice mate... much appreciated... I think il look in to it a bit more and as you say probably get one specifically for the octavia 👍

Unlikely; the best benefit from an intercooler related mod with a standard or generic map is some extra ventilation in the RH inner wheel liner, so heat gets out faster.
