Auto Tinting Rear Mirror

Featured Replies

Perhaps the only thing I miss from the Vectra rental cars (and lagoona for that matter) I get is the self dipping rear view mirror. There has to be an aftermarket one about, but I cant seem to find one.

Anyone know of one? if so where / how much

It's for the Furby....

Cheers

The Superb has it :smile-l:, perhpas a visit to your dealer to see if they could get 1 to fit your Fab?

Part no. 3BO 857 511 H

"Interior rear view mirror, automatic anti dazzle for vehicles with rain sensor."

This is the part from the Superb. I bet its not cheap though - anyone know how it works?

Remembered this site too where someone has fitted one to a VW Golf.

details here

Mine appears to have a light sensor pointing to the rear window at the bottom of the mirror.

It looks just like a clear LED, in an angled hole to allow for the mirror to be set for the driver and still be pointing the sensor straight back.

Have to say it works very well.

How is the wiring connected up to the mirror? Does it go up into the headlining?

I couldnt tell you as I have never looked, but judging by the fit I would say it must do.

Doh...realises....

Course it must do because you have a carrier trim for the wiring that goes up from the mirror base to the roof that runs against the windscreen.

aha! Cheers Andy

It does seem fairly straightforward to fit though (although I must not get any ideas!) The hardest part would be making the cable guide fit into the headlining I reckon.

Does the Superb mirror have the led illumination underneath, as on the Passat W8?

The Superb does have "cat vision", but the LED,s are positioned in the interior lamp assembly, directly above the gear stick so they reflect nicely in the chromed top of the gear stick.

My BMW has an auto dipping interior mirror, and frankly it's a pain in the @rse. I've covered the sensor. Having driven Mercs where all the mirrors dip, it seems pointless to have just the interior dipping. You still get dazzled by the door mirrors! You also can't see enough through the dipped mirror to see who's behind, you just know someone is, and you don't know if it's Plod etc.

Should be able to make this fit too! :)

Oh - the advantages of VAG parts sharing. :D

Question then might be...is the dimming rear view mirror an option on the continent for the Fab?

You never know, it might be and possibly the loom would already be waiting for it.....ok, so its a long shot.

Probably isnt an option because of how the mirror mounts (direct to glass). I'm sure there must be someone that does an aftermarket one that just takes a battery........ If not I know what I'm gonna invent;)

I would have thought the mirror unclips from the mount on the windscreen. Then you would just need a way of taking the wiring up into the headlining for a power source.

Yeah they do unclip, just need to have a look round see if there is any replacement for the light unit that includes the mount and power tunnel for the mirror.

Dont spose the new Polo has self tinting does it?

Possibly-will try to find out.

I reckon the Superb one would fit though. I dont quite fancy butchering up my headlining to find out how though. :(
