1.6 tdi high Idle /Temperature reading ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

I have just purchased my second skoda. Love the car, 76 mpg on national speed roads.

Is it possible to read the coolant/ oil temp on the basic dash. Or do I need a basic bluetooth obd dongle for that

Also I noticed a sort of hot smell/ diesel exhaust and a high idle of 1000rpm after a 12 mile drive. Is this just a dpf regen or something I should take a quick look into.

Thanks In advance

Does the car have coolant temperature gauges?

No its got the basic dash

Often repeated comment by me - ODB2 bluetooth dongle and Torque app on an Android phone or tablet. With the phone in a holder in eye view while driving this is possible. I have an Android headunit fitted to use GPS and allow DAB, with a screen shot below - there are different gauges that you can chose. Unsure if car has an oil temperature sender. Smell and raised tick-over suggests DPF regen, and long run may correct this as the car may not have travelled enough distance to complete the regen. There is a app - DPF Free? - that may also be usable via the OBD2 dongle that would report DPF loading, that may be suitable for you engine code but not suitable for my 1.4TDI Greenline.

Hello thankyou for this reply.

I have since put a good few hours of motorway driving to clean everything out.  Turns out it has a high idle until you put the handbrake on then it comes back down to around 700 rpm. Might be a assist for pulling off. I will look into buying a obd reading just so I can monitor the temperature. Its more so I can make sure the car is warmed up before the heavy foot comes out 😂 and to make sure the temp stays at 90 with a prolonged heavy foot on the motorway. Goes pretty well for 90hp must admit.

This OBD2/Torque method identified a faulty thermostat issue on my Greenline which also just has just the blue light to indicate coolant below about 48 deg. Never heard of the revs/handbrake issue you are seeing so will be interesting to see if anyone else can supply feedback on this.
