Towing with Superb Estate DSG

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for some advice please.  I have a 2.0 TDi CE (190bhp) Skoda Superb Estate with DSG.  I have just bought a caravan and have had a Skoda towbar fitted.  All good so far but I am looking for advice as to which setting I should use for towing the caravan?  I have been told that 'normal' will be fine but I have also been told that the 'sport' setting is best.  We're heading off on a 3 week trip to the continent very soon so any advice would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Welcome.

I hope you are going to go do a few hours towing with the caravan & car loaded in advance of setting off on your long trip.

Car tyre pressures set as they will be with the van on and car loaded.

That should let you become familiar with the DSG with the van on.

Shifter into D and drive.

Easy enough to try the shifter back to S.

It holds the gears longer.  No idea why you would use a Sport setting, maybe the person advising means the other settings the car has.

You will know within a few miles of having to drive in stop start traffic or hills what suits you.

A mod might move your post and the caravan towers in the Superb section can help.

Thank you for your feedback and advice roottoot, much appreciated.  I shall have put in a couple of short trips prior to going abroad so, hopefully, it will all work out OK.

I always used DCC and steering set to Sport and the rest on Normal. Not sure about later models but Stop/Start isn't automatically disabled when towing so turn that off too.

Setting the drive to Sport is just going to create a lot of noise and drink fuel.

That's very useful to know.  Thank you.
