Reduced current charging

Featured Replies

If I set reguced current charging in the scheduler does that only apply to the sceduled charged when it is activated, or all charging?

We're staying in a friend's gite later this year and he says best to limit the charging current to 7A if we can.

Also what's the difference between a "departure time" and setting "Off peak"?

The converter on the cable between the 13 amp socket and the car is a 240 volt AC to 400 volt DC  transformer and limits the supply current to 10amps. I don't know how to reduce the supply current. Off peak enables the car to be charged at a time when cheap electricity is available. In our case, with Octopus Go, this is between 00:30 and 04:30 and the cost is 7.5 p/kWh, or about a pound for a full charge. I use an old style mechanical timer rated at 13 amps to charge the car at off-peak rates. Although the car did the job, because the software is iffy I don't trust it.  I don't know what departure time means for the charger, but it can programme the aircon to come on at a set time before you leave to pre-heat or -cool the car.

There's a radio button in the app.

Thanks Niamh. I don't have Skoda Connect, so I'll have a look in the Infotainment centre, just in case I ever need it.

Reduced current charging applies to all charging until you alter the setting to maximum.

Departure time-the car will make sure that it starts charging soon enough to have the car 100% charged by this time.

Off peak allows you to restrict programmed charging to that time period. As an example, my car is set to charge to 30% as soon as it is connected. Once it reaches 30% it will not start charging until the off peak hours. It will work out what time it needs to start charging to be 100% charged by 8am.

Right :)

Do you know what the reduced charging current is?

What do I do to set reduced charging but no off peak or departure time? The app is not clear.

The reduced charging current is just over 1.2kw. I can see this on my monitoring system at home.

I have no idea what happens if you don't set off peak or departure time, but I would presume that the car will just charge to full once it has been plugged in.

Great so about 5A which will be fine for the gite

I'm sure someone will know how to just set reduced current on its own.
