Engine stuttering with ESP light at 2000revs

Hi ALL

 

Can anyone suggest whats wrong.......

 

In have a kodiaq 2017 4x4 150 2.0 diesel. Recently in 3rd and 4th gear once reaching approx 2000 revs the ESP LIGHT flickers and the engine seems to stutter for a few seconds at the same time  before going back to normal.

 

There is alittle loss of power when this happens. Its fine on motorway and long drives just when I slow down for corners or in 3rd/4th gear.

 

Everything else is good - no loss in mpg overall etc - just this little hiccup as described 

 

Any suggestions from you experts

Logical first thought is that you have a failing ABS sensor (yes really; they're also used for ESP and indirect TPMS if fitted). You will need a fault code reader to find out which one.

having said that i do have a tyre pressure indicator light illuminated despite the tyre is pumped up

So you have 2 of the 3 issues I predicted as possibly due to a failing ABS sensor. Also, which fault code reader did you use? They don't all read every fault correctly.

You need a better reader first; you have 4 ABS sensors, one at every wheel.

Hi All, 

Ive replaced only 1 ABS sensor (front right) but it doesn't appear to stop the stutter.

 

Ive had a VCDS scan and this is what the results show - can anyone pinpoint/ assist what will cause the stutter (ESP LIGHT flashing when reach about 2000revs)

Well, at least this is cheap; check the actual size, particularly width and section number, of all 4 tyres. If one is different to the other 3, then that's your problem.

Ive checked each tyre - they are all 235/55/r18 however 2 different makes.

 

Any other suggestions ;/ 

 

The tyre inflation light indicated the front offside tyre on the picture shown on the display.

I think an abs sensor is faulty, this also controls the ESP, and when car thinks it is slipping will cut power, which presumably you are noticing as a sort of stuttering of engine power.

 

You appear to have the 4x4 and scans are showing 123,900km or about 77,000 miles, so it is also due (marginally overdue) it’s second Haldex fluid (and Haldex filter) change.  From memory the ESP system interfaces with Haldex when there is detected slippage

 

But it could be a combination of a faulty ABS detector/sensor and other parts combined with different tread depths etc, plus dirty Haldex filter (so not reacting as far as it should do) all tending to confuse the system etc.

 

My suggestion is try switching wheels front-back, check tyre pressures, reset tyre pressure monitoring and see if that changes it.   Shouldn’t be getting a TPMS light regularly.   Either it will move with the wheels (get a tyre shop to check it, replace valve etc as have faulty tyre) or will still do it on same wheel which means need to check or replace sensor and look for broken wires to sensor
