Passenger front window regulator help!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have a passenger front window jammed in the down position on my Fab Vrs (55 reg) I think the regulator has failed as the motor is running but I can see the cables are loose inside the door (I have the panel removed) and there is a grinding noise when operating.

I can't lift the glass by hand to secure the car. Is there anyway of raising the glass when stuck down to at least secure the vehicle meanwhile? I will also have to replace the regulator can anyone point me to a guide to help with this? Many thanks.

If the glass is jammed you'll need to remove the window carrier from the door first, this means drilling out all the rivets including the four that hold the regulator guides, you must also remove the window motor.

Okay, thanks for reply Sepulchrave, I thought that might be the case. 😬 It looks like there are several different repairs once striped. Cable repair kits to full regulators incl the interior panel it is fixed to. What would you advise and is it worth buying non genuine parts on ebay etc?

Non-genuine parts are fine, honestly the hardest part of the job is reassembling everything so buying a complete regulator and door panel assembly saves time and effort.

That's great. Thanks. Would you happen to know what size pop rivets I need?

Part number N91078801  6.4X10.0mm.

If you get a whole new regulator panel you need to swap your door speaker to it. The rivets for the speaker are part number N90765701.  4.8x15mm. However, I used short nuts and bolts on mine instead of the rivets.

You will need a riveter capable of taking those sizes as small standard pop rivet guns are no use.

Brilliant. Thank you TMB that's much appreciated. I will have to swop the speaker and I'd had in mind that the rivet must be the same size as the panel rivet, so that's a great help.

Sorry to ask for further assistance... I am attempting to remove the internal door carrier today, but I am struggling to remove the harness clip on the door lock module... 🤬

Any tips on removing this as I'm afraid of breaking something?

I watched on online Video but the guy removes the complete lock assembly with the carrier. Is this a better way of doing it?

I too struggled with this recently and broke the latch because the plastic was brittle, I secured it with a small self tapping screw upon reassembly, make sure you push it as you press the latch before trying to pull it off. Be patient and keep trying until you get it.

The little catch on the plug has to be pulled downwards. And as sepulchrave says, you have to try and push the whole plug upwards at the same time to release pressure on the catch, then the plug should be able to be pulled down and off. I used a nail to pull the catch down but have also managed to do it with my fingers a few times..

I shall try this in the morning, I've been pulling instead of pushing to release it first, so this may help massively. I didn't know about the tool so in hindsight I may have ordered one, however the nail idea is a great shout, it looks like a 6 incher! Once again, I appreciate all the advice. You guys are invaluable in helping us to keep our Fabs on the road. 👍
