Rooms petrol automatic, tiptronic, DGS, what’s the difference? 1.2 105 vs 1.6 105?.

Recommended Posts

Oops…slipped finger!  Trying to find info on the automatic petrol Roomster for mother. I’m not sure on the difference between the tiptronic and the DGS, the 1.2 105 Hp and the 1.6 105 hp?

can anyone point me where I can find info on all the models as we’re a bit confused as to the automatic variants available and advantages / disadvantages of each.  So fri can find there papers to be a number of DGS 1.2 105 available but not many tiptronic 1.6 105s. Also found some references to the DGS being slower on auto selection than tiptronic but nothing definitive!

any advice / experiences gratefully received…

Welcome.

Maybe a mod can move this to the Roomster section.

What age of Roomster are you looking at?

1.6 MPI  6 speed tiptronic to 2015.  No idea till when in the UK.

1.2 TSI DQ200 7 speed DSG 2010 on to 2015.

The petrol 1.6 is maybe more of a noticeable difference.  You want to read threads on those, there are those in the Roomster section.

I thought the Tiptronic was discontinued early,

it had no service schedule but by now it might well have had an oil change and if not will want one.

** Members can maybe comment on fuel consumption because emissions look high.**

To your mum there is maybe nothing to notice as a difference even though a tiptronic is very different from a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.

A 1.2 TSI and DQ200 dsg will shift gear as fast as anyone will be wanting.

There are things to look out on with the 1.2 TSI and DQ200 DSG and that is age dependent.

Timing chain, plug lead, service campaign on DSG,   These should have been addressed by 2022 on the models involved.

They are completely different gearboxes.

The Tiptronic being a 6 speed torque converter automatic.

And the DSG is a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.

The Tiptronic will be thirstier than the DSG and especially mated to the older tech 1.6 FSI.

The 1.6 is obviously a much older engine design but also chain driven like the 1.2 TSI.

The 1.2 TSI is a newer turbo charged engine and although a smaller engine it has more torque and paired to the much quicker and sharper DSG will be much nippier than the 1.6 Tiptronic.
