Coolant tank cap - loosly moving when closed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

recently I've changed lot of stuff, one of which is the coolant tank with the new one. Without silica.

However when I close it and I hear the "click" for the lock position, the cap is still moving in the horizontal surface (east/west, north/south).

Is that normal? The old one was tight and steady.

Attaching how it looks like..

Thank you!

Any moisture on the seal, which could aid it moving?

The fact that you heard and felt a click tells me that the movement is correct for that type of cap retention mechanism, its probably an anti-overtightening mechanism like the tamperproof lids on pill jars.

With the old style you tightened against an increasing resistance until you could tighten no more but it was hard to judge, the weak wristed may have left the cap insecure, the ham fisted might damage the threads or prevent anyone weaker from subsequently removing it.

Mine moves on my 1.2tsi slightly when closed. It clicks shut. Never lose coolant
