TomTom Go 500 for

Featured Replies

As the new model has recently been released, I thought being a bit tight with the cash would do some investigating and see how much I could get the Go 500 for?

After loads of searching around and it seems stock levels are getting very low I found it on Curry's on-line superstore for

That is a pretty good price for the 500. The 700 is also available for an extra £25.

I have a 700 and wouldn't be without it, use it all the time and it has never let me down. Also have TT Traffic which I find very good once you get it working.

As a Car Kit it is very average even with the external mic and nowhere near as good as a hardwired professional Car Kit. I binned mine as a Car Kit and use a Parrot 3400GPS System, which is superb. Having said that I make and receive a lot of calls when driving as I use the car for business doing 30K miles a year.

Oh and be careful if leaving the mount in the window, some scumbag may take a shine to it and put your window through to search your glovebox for the TTG as happened to me Friday night on my own path in a quite nice residential area. And to think the amount of Hotel Car Parks I've left the car in and even Liverpool Airport Car Park for three days with the mount in the Window as I forgot to remove it and had no problems.

I thought about the 700 but I don't need the full Europe maps and the remote seems pointless to me.

I was going to go for the TomTom 1 but I'm fed up looking like a tw*t with my Bluetooth headset on (it's not the most comfortable either).

Is the Bluetooth on the TomTom any good, well compaired to a headset anyway?

It looks like Curry's have put the price back up to

I found that even with the external mic people couldn't hear me very well, the sound from the unit was fine but not overally loud even on full volume when travelling down the motorway, maybe alright around town at slower speeds. But not suitable for my needs.

After loads of searching around and it seems stock levels are getting very low I found it on Curry's on-line superstore for £269.99 and £10 delivery but there is a web-site which has discount codes on it which gave another £15 off, so it came to £265 delivered which I think isn't too bad.

I would be interested if anyone has found it cheaper (reputable sources only) and user reviews would be appreciated[/quote']

Looks like you could have saved yourself 6p at savastore.com (whoever they are).

Think you did right to stick with Currys:thumbup:

Got my wife a TT700 at Curries local store for

I did have a look at savastore and Fone Planet who were the cheapest by not much to be honest but after reading reviews from customers I decided to go somewhere that if I had a problem then could return it to my local Currys.

Can anyone recommend a good site for upgrades for the software and speed camera locations and the like?

Upgrading of the software to the latest version can be found free of charge on Tom Tom's own website - suggest you actually register with them, but that is not necessary to get the software.

Tom Tom's own camera database is pretty inacurate and costly. The best one is at www.pocketgpsworld.com It costs nowadays -
