Abs system magnetic ring replacement

Featured Replies

Ok, got a problem with warnings about the front o/s abs detector, which i have just replaced, still got the problem, looked at youtube and the next suggestion is the magnetic(reluctor) ring and corrosion of it. As with all you tube stuff some info seems to have been 'glossed over' ie getting the hub assembly out.

Anyone out there got any pictures/drawings or info? Otherwise its a garage job!

oK, THINK i HAVE SORTED THE PROBLEM, REPLACED SENSOR, STILL THE SAME PROBLEM, LOOKED AT VARIOUS YOUTUBE STUFF, HAD A LOOK AT THE ORIGINAL SENSOR, NO TELLTALE TRACKING ON THE BOTTOM FACE, SO, SQUIRTED SOME SWITCH CLEANER INTO THE 2 HALVES OF THE PLUG/SOCKET, REINSTALLED THE ORIGINAL SENSOR CONNECTED UP, VCDS'D THE SYSTEM AND IT ALL RESET, WENT FOR A DRIVE, STILL CLEAR, I think maybe moisture got into the plug etc a few weeks ago, when i hosed off the wheel arches etc, who knows, i am now a happy bunny!!!

Sorry about the capitals, couldn't be bothered to rewrite it all.

So far so good, seems to be working perfectly, so if the abs sensors play up/error message, maybe start tracing the problem by giving the plug and socket squirts of switch and contact cleaner, if that doesn't work further investigation required!

Update, problem returned, with a dashboard like Blackpool illuminations!

Started by recharging the battery on a recondition setting. After the recharge the dashboard was clear of warnings, checked my records, the battery is 5.5 years old so, a new battery 'en route', I might keep it unfitted until the problem returns!!

Theory is, with covid and confinements ,lots of short journeys which didn't do the battery any favours!!

Now need to use VCDS to read any arising problems.

It was the battery, it wouldn't hold charge, replaced, probs have not returned!

The original voltage first thing was12.3 volts, tells its own story!

So, based on my experience , any warning lights on the dash, start by looking at the battery voltage/state of charge! Then move on to other causes.
