Sportline 280 front brakes

Featured Replies

My Sportline 280 has just failed the MOT on front pads and discs. The fail report shows pads less than 1.5 mm however I did not see any warning light about the pads, also reported the discs significantly worn. I only had an oil service done 6 weeks ago and the mechanic said the rear discs were rusty on the edge but nothing about the front discs and pads.

I read another post about the wear indicator should show well before the pads reach 1.5mm

Would my car not have brake pad wear indicators or would they have been omitted the last time they were changed?

Car has done 77k so not too bad, but I am annoyed that the MOT history will show a fail!

Also on the MOT report are two advisories about 2 of the wheels being slightly distorted, I guess caused by potholes! Would they need replacing or can they be repaired?

I am getting brembo discs and pads fitted as they are currently on offer from GSF and much less than what I was quoted for genuine Skoda parts, are these a good choice?

I had the front brakes and pads replaced on our MKI at 80k as they were at the limit, so I’d say 77k isn’t an early exit for front brakes. We sold our MKII with 46k so no idea how they’d perform long term with me driving.
However, I just checked the mot history on the car and it passed the mot in March with 69,632 mile and it had advisories for wear on both front brakes, so doubtful if it’ll pass then next one.

I've got the Brembo pads and would not recommend them; less bite and more dust than the originals (which were eaten by rusty discs). Ferodo DS Performance pads were great on my previous car, well worth the extra cost.

Very pleased with the Brembo discs though, they still look good after a couple years of use.

Wouldnt be touching brembo with a barge pole... terrible brakes as their aftermarket friction materials are just made by a company in china that bought the rights to the brand.

Regarding failing for brakes, id always be getting a second opinion, its too easy for people to fail a car and expect you to trust them completely when they are in it to make a profit.
