Recording from a source to PC

Featured Replies

I'm in the throes of setting up my turntables again after some considerable storage time and am keen to record mixes straight onto my PC.

1. Can this be done via Mic line IN using Phono > 3.5mm jack plug?

2. What software is best to use for "cleaning" sound and editing afterwards?

Cheers

If it's an unamplified signal off the turntables, wouldn't do that - will be *very* quiet. I'd recommend putting it through an amp and connecting up the "tape loop" to the PC...

I quite like CoolEdit for this sort of thing...though I do it mainly to adjust the gain on the track, tidy up "white space", etc - it still sounds like vinyl. Might be better stuff out there for what you want though...

The setup will be TURNTABLES to MIXER to AMP to PC (from REC out) so signal should be loud enough.

Thanks for the software tip. Is it a free download jobby? :D

Free to download, though it does(did) have functionality restrictions on it...

When i recorded some of my vinyl to mp3, i used a RCA to 3.5mm audio jack from the back of the mixer to the line in on my pc sound card and recorded using sound forge. They sound just slightly quieter than a normal mp3 ripped from a cd.

Hardware is the easy bit. As stated, phono to (mixer to) amp to PC is the way to go. Gonna try this CoolEdit thingy though, my results to date haven't been a raging success. Nice one Rob.
