MIB 2.5 and VC install

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I just recently bought a 2015 Octavia and want to bring it up to current standards with a MIB 2.5 and VC install.

I’m struggling to identify the original part numbers for the Octavia, I know Suberb and another car’s parts allegedly work but this is why I’m looking to the forum for help

I have a friend who works at VW,  they’re seeing if they can get the correct parts for me, or if there’s anyone here who may be able to help

thanks a lot!

It's not clear which part numbers you're looking for?

There are two different Octavia virtual cluster part numbers:

5E0 920 790 (no sporty display)

5E0 920 790 A (with sporty display)

I retrofitted the A variant to my 2018 car. I added a MOST (fibre optic) to the headunit and also changed the MFSW buttons to 3V0 919 719 E (this adds the 'view' button).

There are loads of MIB2.5 part numbers, my car came with the following Amundsen which works perfectly with the VC:

- headunit 5Q0 035 874 C

- display 5E0 919 605 M

I'm no expert on older cars with VC installs but I think you might need a newer CAN-gateway. If you use the sporty display mode, you'll might find the output power bar doesn't work either.

Hi Langers,

Thanks a lot for the information, it’s beyond helpful!

Do you know which 9.2 Columbus and VC units work with my Octavia? Beyond the part numbers you gave me.

I.E can I take a unit from for a Karoq or Superb and put it in my Octavia?

Again thank you a lot!
I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to VAG vehicles and parts

The display will need to be from an Octavia - I think there is only one 9.2" variant and the part number is 5E0 919 606 D.

I believe the headunit can be from any model. Columbus MIB2 units can be converted into MIB2.5 but there is more info in Pab567's post here:

Hi apologies for bumping an old thread,

so far I’ve obtained this screen and MIB2.5

My car is a DAB model and this unit is fully unlocked. From what I know, I’ll only need a new USB port in order for this to function?

Do you have Canton, and do you have a MIB1 unit currently (MIB2 was introduced during 2015 so an early 2015 - like my previous Octavia - will have a MIB1 but later builds will have a MIB2)?

If you have a MIB1 then IIRC you will also need a new Canton amp.

Thanks for the reply PetrolDave!

i’m coming from MIB1 yea so I believe I’ll need the canton AMP.

Can this part be taken from a different Skoda or will it need to be the Octavia variant?
Suberb and Kodiaq parts are generally cheaper.

I’ve heard the MIB 2/2.5 can drive the speakers anyway. Perhaps it can be coded to have this functionality like in SEAT cars?

You will have to do a lot of rewiring too, to move the speakers from the amp to the main unit.

You will need a new amp to start with.

As this unit has GSM you will need 2 antennas and the correct fakra wiring.

The usb will need a new port and cable.

This covers the physical side, next it needs fitting, coding, finding the correct datasets for the car and then needs the custom swap codes hacking on to it. Most of this can be done with a variety of tools but you will need VCDS, VCP/ODIS, MibToolbox at the least.

Hi, all

Here’s the finished result!

The MIB 2.5 fully fitted no sound issues with basic speakers, I taken it to someone who knows much more than me to do the adaptions, coding and dataset swaps.

As I suspected, the unit being configured for Canton was no issue as the configuration is done in software and can be changed via adaptations, you can even enable Skoda surround and virtual subwoofer if you wish via OBD Eleven.

No issues so far.

Such a massive look and sound quality boost from the basic MIB 1

Adding onto this;

I managed to source a VC on AliExpress. after waiting and receiving, the quality of the plastic surround could be better and the part is actually for a superb but works just fine in the Octavia.

(albeit the wrong car is displayed, not fussed)

I hired Derby Diagnostic Services do this but due to the part number being wrong, automatic adaption doesn’t work and will need to be manually coded/adapted to the car.

With the genuineness of the unit being questionable, the unit works fine.
No lag or delays.
Even sending 3D maps works

Oddly enough, I had bought the steering wheel buttons including the ‘view’ button however upon installation of the VC. My standard buttons work fine and can change the view.
Unsure if this is due to it being a later 2015 model or due the car being a higher spec with the ‘High’ BCM but I’ll be seeking to the buttons later, it’s just no longer a priority.

These are my findings and thoughts. Lastly, I’ll include some photos of the finished result!

hi mate nice install I’m wanting to do this aswell, did you purchase your screen and glove box unit brand new or did you source them second hand ?

  • Author

Thanks!

I got my unit second hand from a breaker on EBay.

Seller was Lukas/DiscoveryPro on EBay. I got lucky with my unit but I’ve been told by multiple sources to generally avoid.

Just make sure you get an invoice/receipt with the original vehicle’s vin etc as most people won’t code a stolen unit

Thanks for that mate, out of interest what did you pay for each item?

So the Columbus 9.2 set cost me about £800 with £200 installation.

The 9.2 screen is the killer as it’s relatively rare.

The glovebox MIB 2.5 unit are very easy to get.

This was a set found on EBay.

It maybe cheaper to find them separately.

The advantage to buying a pre-unlocked set, it’s kind of “jailbroken” as component protection is removed and you can freely code the unit via OBD11.

The VC, was from AliExpress and is actually for a superb, just with the octy facia to fit, this was about £650 too

£200 for coding too, with the superb unit, part numbers won’t match.
So it will take longer to code to the vehicle.

Hi mate yeah I’ve just paid around £700 for screen and multimedia unit. Tried the screen today and the connection on the new screen for the plug in the pictures is slightly different compared to the old screen did you have this issue ?

Hi again,

You can use a Stanley knife to just the tab off your connector, it should slot right in.

If you’re installing a new usb plug for carplay, you can do the same with that connector too.

alternatively, you can replace the cables but is way more costly

Oh yes I see now, simple fix, thanks 👍🏼 and I don’t think I need to change the usb, my old system is this so think should be good

Yes, your usb should be fine!

I went from the very primitive MIB1. So it’s needed absolutely everything so far!

Did you need to modify the blue connector “GPS” on the new MIB unit ?

It’s been awhile, life gets like that sometimes…

However in my experience, I didn’t need to modify it.

How have you you gotten on with the install..?
