Hi all. 

I have a quick question for you all. 

I need to fit a towbar to my new kodiaq as I need to carry bikes.  I planed on carring them on a boot system but iv been told the spoiler would break.  So my question is do I need to get skoda to fit or can I go to an independent.  I ask as I don't want to void my warranty over such a small thing.  Also if any Irish here how much did it cost you.

You won't void the warranty by having a tow bar fitted by a third-party, but it will mean that you may have to prove any future issue isn't as a result of having the tow bar fitted (or, at least, that's how it works in the UK - I assume consumer law is vaguely similar in Ireland).

 

But... the first thing to do is check and see if your car has a towing weight listed on the plate on the driver's door pillar - if not, then nowhere should fit a tow bar (even for bikes) as the car can't legally tow anything. There seems to be a whole lot of confusion around this, and it appears Skoda have not been listing towing weights unless the factory fit tow bar (or, at least, the tow bar prep) is fitted at the time of purchase.

Thanks for that. I will be well browned off if one can't be fitted as when buying I asked to have one fitted and was told it can be done at a later date as it wasn't available at the time. Imagine there biggest car and might be able to tow.  

The lack of towing weight on the data plate unless the car has a factory fit towbar or towbar prep has been in the small print in the Kodiaq brochures for a while.

Dealer should not be informing buyers that you can fit a towbar at a latter date when legally you can’t.

Yes, and it is there max train weight 4470kg

 

If not homologised for towing, will have a zero

 

Ye there is 4470 kg. So think Im good to go 

If you got the car brand new why didnt you spec it with the genuine tow bar or at the least tow bar prep?

 

If youre fitting aftermarket towbars now youll have to go about running a wiring loom to the front of the car and to do things properly youll also have to replace the radiator fan pack.
