Car play usb upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi, question for anyone that might know the answer! I’m in the process of upgrading my 64 vrs to a newer unit with car play and a previous thread was really useful in highlighting that I need to have a 5Q0035726E USB port for car play to work. I’ve sourced a good condition head unit and screen from eBay which work fine and I’ve got a guy doing the CP removal and car play activation in a couple of weeks.

My only question is this. I’ve sourced a used USB port and swapped it ready for the swap over radio, but it doesn’t seem to want to work - tried both connecting my phone as the old port at least charged it and connecting a USB stick with music files on it which worked fine on the old port, but I get nothing. The usb stick is one that normally flashes red when it’s connected but nothing is happening so it’s like there’s no power. If I put the old connector back on that works fine.

Obviously short of having another car to try the port on I have really got a lot of other ways I can test it. Is there some limitation where the 726E USB won’t work with my older unit but should work with the newer one? Have I likely got a faulty 726E? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks in advance for any help!

Heres the post I used to swap the port out:

Never mind - think I’ve sussed it. It’s works fine with the new unit, so must be a comparability issue with my old mib1 unit. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone else that does an equivalent upgrade 😊
