Oil Filter change

Featured Replies

Normally I just suck the oil out with the pella pump every 9.5k miles and have a full service done at 18.5k miles (Or whenever the computer asks), but with the car getting a bit older, I'm thinking I might just get off my arris and undo the big piece of plastic to allow myself to do the oil and filter now.

Does anyone have any details of the tools needed for the filter housing etc and also any instructions?

I'll likely still pump the oil out before removing the oil filter to save the possibility of a mess, but it would be great to know what's what before I venture under the car.

it's a 2.0 TDI

Filter housing on a petrol is a 32mm socket, the thing is beautifully located right at the front / top of the motor, just remove the engine cover for easy access. Undertray was a Torx T20 I think. Sump plug is plastic, a large flat head screwdriver or a 20p piece in a mole wrench should do it.

I only watched a couple of seconds of this video but it may help.

Dead easy to do on the 2.0 TDi, on mine you have to remove a Torx screw to release a sensor (still plugged in and attached) to allow the withdrawal of the old filter, it's tight but once you know it can be done it's not a problem.

When its removed your suction pump can remove a significant quantity of old oil from the base of the filter housing and the oil cooler.

I know the mk2 was on top and easy, but I thought the mk3 was underneath hidden by the plastic under tray.

The video seems to bear out your thoughts.

Screw having one of those then!!!!
