Estate rear wiper sometimes freezing

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Since a couple of months, the rear wiper sometimes freezes at 2/3 of the way. Then it sometimes starts again on its own and goes back to rest position and sometimes, I need to switch it off and switch it on to make it start again to return to its rest position.

I did not make any VCDS scan to check if there's any fault code from the wiper. I did not remove the the inner plastic trim of the tailgate either to have a closer look at this time.

Has anyone ever faced the same issue? How did you solve it (if solved)? Thanks again.

Isn’t this actually ridiculously common with VAG rear wiper motors?

To be honest, this is the fifth VAG car in the family: Audi A3 Mk2 MY2003 / Audi A3 Mk2 MY2009 / Skoda Superb Mk2 MY2012 / Audi Q3 Mk1 MY2015 + Skoda Superb Mk3 MY 2018 (both still in the family). Only the latter did this...

Not very pleased to change the complete motor wiper after only 4 years... Though not that expensive...

Thanks anyway. I'll try to check if there is something wrong with it. I'll let you know if I find something ;)

My Octy 2 had the problem, I solved it by taking the motor apart and cleaning/greasing the bearing bushes and freeing off the carbon brushes.

Within 9 months it was playing up again and it finally went into full on Karen mode while I was delivering it to its purchaser so I knocked €30 off the price.

When (not if!) the Yeti one goes I will simply replace it, they are cheap enough.

I had assumed it could be something like that! But it's better to ask! ;)
