Audience Aux Input for MP3 Player Solution

Featured Replies

Having order my OCTY with the uprated Audience player and speakers I was gutted to find there seems to be no easy way to get an Aux input.

In fact if I'd stuck with the standard stream unit I could have got an adaptor to make the unit think the mp3 player was a cd changer but as the CD change for the Audience was built in I was stuffed.

I tried out an Audia-x FM transmitter (http://www.merconnet.com/product_info.php?products_id=426&meRrid=8e58781a644e250f5fe6ac3161914d6b) but soon found the sound was not that good and phone to interference.:thumbdwn:

After putting up when using the head unit for a year I eventually bit the bullet got an in line FM modulator fitted by **** Fleming communications in Aberdeen (total cost £82) . This pumps the FM signal directly into the aerial lead. they also fitted a switch in the glove box to let me turn the unit off in case I drove to an area where the unit interfered with my radio reception.

You can buy the unit yourself for around £35 (e.g. http://www.caraudiodesign.co.uk/product_info.php/pName/soundlinx-fm01mod-fm-modulator-8-channel) but I felt it was worth getting it professionally fitted.

Result - almost CD quality sound with no interference - In fact I'd says its better than the cassette adaptor I used in my old A4.:D

The only slight downside is that the mp3 player volume has to be up full. I use an IRiver H140 which has a long battery life but IPOD users may need a power adaptor to keep their battery going - but then if I had an Ipod I would have bought the Dension IceLink FM which does the same sort of thing but I think it also powers the Ipod (http://www.dension.com/icelinkfm.php)

Any more details on this? Are you talking specifically about the Audience radio, or are you saying that all of the radios (inc Stream) used after week 22 will support MP3?

cheers!

I own the local Skoda dealer in Romania and I cand surrely tell you that starting with week 22 all new octavias that have stream radio or audiance and jumbo-box will get and auxillary imput. Also stream will get mp3 support.

More details:

- rear heated seats

- dual passanger and driver solar blind( I think that is what is called)

- multi-function stearing well for dynamic pachage

Sounds good but unfortunately UK Spec rarely lives up to European Spec so although the aux input may become standard, i very much doubt that a lot of the other niceties you mention will ever reach these shores and if they do they won't be standard fit.

The Aux input should make it to UK spec cars given the demand for the things.

As for the other stuff, this is rip off Britain so we all know the answer to that.

The aux input may or may not make it but for all the poor sods like me who already have the car the inline FM modulator route is well worth it. I got my OCTY in Apr 05.

If you are still to order then its worth pressing the dealer to confirm what you will get (good luck).

I have been told for certain by Skoda UK that all week 22 build (29/May) onwards will have the aux input. Thank god mine's a week 22 build!
