Replacing a cigarette lighter ?

Featured Replies

When I came to use my satnav in my 2001 Elegance T.D.I. at the weekend, I noticed that it powered down rather quickly. Discovered that the lighter socket doesn't look very healthy at all, rust, corrosion and other detritis present. Checked the fuse (No. 42) and that is O.K. Childproof lock for rear doors is not depressed so I figure that the socket itself is u/s. The question, which I'm hoping one of you nice people can answer is how do I get the socket out ? I managed to change the battery recently so I'm sure that I can tackle this with a bit of technical expertise behind me. It doesn't appear to want to rotate in its little hole and I'm having visions of removing the tunnel thingy that it's located in. Please tell me that it isn't true. On the subject of the child lock for the rear doors, I haven't had cause to use it for a few years but that doesn't appear to work now, I'm wondering if the 2 faults may be connected ? Having looked at the excellent fuse diagrams in the tech section, there doesn't appear to be a seperate fuse for this power consumer ! Any ideas would be most greatfully received.

I did mine recently and took the tunnel out - it's only 4 or five screws and allowed me to clean out all the dust and muck. Lighter and socket was 3 quid from skospares.

Whole job took 45 mins.

Yeah I did mine when I swapped over my interior and tunnel out is the easiest way. As said above, it's only 5 screws and then just lifts up :D
