Octavia PHEV and the "rough road package"

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm wondering about how the so called rough road kit affects the ride on a PHEV? I've tried searching multiple forums and came up with nothing regarding the current model. I understand the package includes bottom armour, new springs and perhaps adjusted shocks (?), depending on the source. Does anyone have a PHEV model with the packege? My current 1.5 tsi 2020 Octavia has quite a soft chasis and i'm considering upgrading to a PHEV with the RR kit, but i'm concerned that the added weight with longer springs makes the car feel like a boat. I've read some accounts about the earlier octavia models that the RR kit makes the suspension stiffer, which would be nice.

They really are not going to be putting them out handling like a boat.  Blue light emergency services might well be using them.  They might need to really do an Elk test!  How much higher is the measurement given ground to roof by Skoda over to car without the rough road package and what clearance measurement is given with and without the Rough Road protection panels?

The new UK Octavia brochure has the rough road package as raising the height by 15mm.  Therefore possibly longer springs

I had the rough road package for many years on the Megane 2 (still using it since 2008) and really had nothing to complain about. It was raising the car by about 20mm; some users mentioned the car is not as stable on speedy corners as the standard suspension, but it's a choice one makes depending on the way the car will be exploited.
I was so happy with the rough road package, that I ordered it on the newly arrived Octavia; it's not a PHEV, but I thought you might use any opinion. For my taste it is great; I drove the car for only 250 km this weekend, but it was mainly on express roads, so I was able to push it a little around some curves - no problems at all and no boat-like behavior on slightly wavy roads. I'm really happy with the extra ground-clearance (they told me it's close to 25 mm extra) since I sometimes get outside the asphalt on bumpy roads while wondering around on vacations.

L.E. sorry, I forgot to mention: the rough road package involves not only different springs, but also different dampers. However, not sure those are stiffer or not than the standard ones.

Interesting that in the UK you can get 'All Season tyres' on 17" rims.

Not on a iV PHEV though.

The 'Rough Road' package with 19" wheels is a rather odd spec.

Surely not for handling boat like, maybe more style than practicality for tyre choice.

Thanks for your answers! I drive mostly on good roads, but some of the country roads i use frequently are in a poor state most of the time. With the PHEV battery being so expensive i thought i could use some extra protection against rocks.

Here it says that the kit includes 15 mm of additional height, protective plates and new springs and shocks. Atleast here in Finland you can order a PHEV with 17 inch rims, which is what i plan to do.

The battery is the least of the worries.  They did engineer them with the usage in mind.  No worries with those.  Well as long as the Safety critical recall actions are done promptly.  Not something that VW group / Skoda seems to be bothering making possible.
