1.6GLX, 70k miles. Engaging gear is quickly getting sticky.

1) Is there some adjustment I can do to improve this? If so, how?

2) How long does it take to change a clutch?

Clutch Master/slave cylinder problem possibly?

Also new fluid, synthetic gear box oil to replace current stuff or check the bushees on the gear linkage.

All random suggestions of course, but i'd go trying in order of cheapest first

About 4 hrs to change the clutch book time, give or take a few mins.

Does the gear engage fine with the engine off?

Thanks for the replies, guys. Funnily enough first and second gears engage really smoothly with the engine off, but third, fourth & fifth are a bit notchy. What does that suggest?

Was planning to change gearbox oil - what's the recommendation for a synthetic oil and where to get (I'm in Ireland)? Presume bleeding the hydraulic fluid through is straightforward enough (I've a pressure kit)? Will prob wait for arrival of my Haynes to go at that.

It says to me that the clutch isnt at fault. Id say the gear oil is a good way to go. Go for a lighter grade (75w90 works well on sticky boxes) and give it a good few hundred miles to work in).

Right, I've bought the 75W90 but I haven't got under the car yet (hoping to park it over a pit later in the week). I'm hoping to get my Haynes before I tackle it.

In case I don't, I want to check: from what I can see, there's a Torx fitting on the bottom of the gearbox (drain?) and possibly another one on the top (filler?). Am I on the right track? How do I tell what's the correct level?
