12v 20amp supply to boot

Featured Replies

Hi, I'd like to get a 12v, 20amp supply to my boot area to fit some ham radio gear in there. Rather than struggle to get a cable through the firewall and then through the cabin, would under the car work if it was armored cable? Or would there be a decent supply in the boot ready for a sub or something? Any thoughts on the best approach?

There should be a 12v cigarette socket in the boot which you could use or attach a piggyback wire to, otherwise you can just use a piggyback fuse from the fusebox behind the glovebox, and run the wire to wherever you like

Hi, I had a similar requirement to Nick. I resolved it by fitting a second battery in the boot. Using a 'smart splitter ' (as used in motorhomes etc. ) it is charged from the existing cigarette socket  via the splitter.

The splitter allows the main battery to charge the second battery ONLY when fully charged itself and isolates at other times it to prevent running the car battery flat.

This arrangement does not involve altering the car wiring the splitter is quite cheap.
