Knackered Washer Jet

Featured Replies

Wow, I'm impressed with the power of the Fabia front washer jets!!

I somehow managed to blow the end of the washer jet (the fan bit) straight off my car yesterday evening when I went to wash the screen. Last I time I saw it, it's was heading up the windscreen and off the car and back into Chesterfield.

I now have one functioning washer and one that just floods the bottom 4 inches of the windscreen.

Does anyone know if it's possible the replace the small plastic centre of the jet (where the screenwash actually emerges) or do I need an entire new fitting?

p.s. apologies to Joshua (I think) for not waving back as I was too busy looking at the satnav, methinks he jinxed me as the washer broke 2 mins later :)

They come out when blocked with congeeled screenwash, the reason why you should use the correct fan jet type fluid.

If you have been using the correct fluid, warranty should cover it.

I've just had the same happen to my Fabia!!

Regarding the recommendation to using only *approved* screenwash, is there any other brand available that if used Skoda will still honor the warranty of a faulty washer system?

If it's Skoda screenwash or nothing, then how does the law stand on car manufacturers demanding a certain type of consumable? They couldn't say you're only allowed to use tyres from Pirelli or fuel from BP (or could they?).

It's a VAG spec screenwash and it's a certain specification for the fan jets, so using anything else may block it. FWIW, I used non-fan jet Scania and Halfords screenwash in my Fabia without any issues at all :D

It's only £2 a bottle from my dealer, hardly bank breaking, 1 litre supply which should last a while and if anything goes wrong with the washers, warrenty covers it (for at least the first 3 years.)

My warranty expired 1,000 miles ago and a trip to the dealer's not very convenient for a bottle of screenwash.

It is common to the VAG group and also my local German Swedish & French sells it.

FWIW I always use it, it seems to work well and isn't expensive.
