Dashboard, airbags and seat belts

Featured Replies

Hello!

My nephew had a tiny accident but unfortunately it was able to activate the srs. The outer damage is minimal, the main cost of the repair is the airbags and seat belts replacement. The question is do all the dash/airbags from different versions fit? The car is a 2001 1.6 AVU engine. Could we fit the airbags from a different engine/year car (as long as it comes from mk1, of course!)? The car is LHD.

In other words, do all mk1 Octavia share the same airbags?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I found a good set of airbags, including the seat belts, although mine are intact. The only problem was the crash sensor (airbag "ecu") was from an Octy with side airbags. Mine doesn't have. So, the scrapper gave me an "ecu" from a Seat Leon which has the same exactly part number and index. Unfortunately, the soft code is different (12865 is the new, 12358 is the old). I installed it with the old deployed airbags and it throws no other errors except for the deployed airbags (igniter resistant too high).

Do you think I'm safe using this "ecu"?

Hi,

It's generally not a good idea to mix and match airbags and other safety components from different vehicles, as they may not be compatible with each other and could potentially cause problems with the airbag system.

In this case, it sounds like the crash sensor or "ecu" you are using is from a different model of car and has a different software code. This could be causing the issue with the deployed airbags error. It's possible that using this "ecu" could cause problems with the airbag system and potentially compromise the safety of the vehicle.

I would recommend using the correct airbags and other safety components for your specific vehicle, as this will help ensure that the airbag system functions properly and provides the necessary protection in the event of an accident. If you are unsure about which parts to use, it's best to consult a mechanic or specialist who is familiar with these systems and can advise you on the appropriate parts for your specific vehicle.

Thanks for the reply. I totally agree with you and I'm in search for the correct sensor. But, it's very difficult to find one as the car breakers stock these parts usually without any more information. The sensor that was with the airbags was from a car equipped with side airbags. Mine hasn't. So, I had to use the resistor modification to trick the system. This is also tampering with the safety systems and I want to avoid it.

The error the sensor gave was because I had tested it with the old, blown airbags. So, the error SHOULD have been thrown. No worries about it.

Anyway, the Leon sensor gives no errors now that I have also replaced the airbags. It sends the correct signal to the ecu and it senses correctly the two airbags so, I think it will be ok till I find the exact sensor for my car.
