Washer jets slow to respond

Featured Replies

I've noticed that there is a delay of several seconds between pulling the stalk to clean the windscreen and any water actually coming out of the nozzles. Is this normal for the new Mk IV?

I can hear the pump whirring away, but my wipers have dragged across glass a couple of times before I see any screenwash actually appear.

I have the same it seems, water takes a second or 2 before appearing, however my wipers only start around the same time so it seems to be a delayed process in general

First water then wipers engage in mine. Maybe frozen screen wash?

Has it just started happening (since the cold weather) or has it always been like this? I think there has always been a delay on mine, I've just added it to the list of things that don't work as well on the MkIV as they did on my MkIII.

I have a similar problem with my screenwash, since the cold weather the water just dribbles out of both the front and rear washers. It's been over 10 degrees for more than 24 hours now so I'm assuming it's not frozen and I can hear the pump working. I suspect the cold weather has damaged the pump or caused a leak somewhere. This never happened in the 8 years I owned my MkIII. The headlight washers, which aren't really necessary, make a mess of the car and use loads of screenwash are working fine, obviously.

I’ve had the same issue.  Dealer removed the pump to find the mesh filter blocked with some sort of residue.  They never worked that well from new relative to my previous Skodas, pushing water halfway up the screen and only after running for some seconds, but stopped working with just a slight spit out of them a couple of months ago.

They cleared the filter, and the jets work now.  However, advised that this is my fault as I have contaminated the tank.  They wanted over £300 to tear it down and replace the tank and pump.

I am uncertain how I could have contaminated the tank, and considering that  they work better now than they ever did, has led me to consider that this might be a problem with the tank and/or filter from new.

My headlight washers have always worked fine.
