Key not found warning when opening boot

Featured Replies

Hi

Hope you could possibly help with a problem I have with my 2014 Skoda Yeti Outdoor SE TDI 4x4

After driving when I turn the engine off and remove the key and open the boot i get a repeating warning sign "Key not found" on the display with various other warning symbols lighting up - this stays up then disappears to be replaced briefly with just a display "Skoda Information System" then beeps and returns the the "Key not found" message - this continues for several minutes  but can be cancelled by locking and unlocking the car - if i put the ignition key in and start the car various warning lights remain on for a short while after driving off but disappear soon after - I have replaced the battery in the key but this has made no difference. Was thinking about disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to reset things but not sure if this is the best course of action. The other weird thing is when I get out of the car the fuel filler cap doesn't open when I press it in and I need to use the key to unlock it which I've never had to do before......

Not too many problems doing that, you'll have to reset the time and the trip mileage will be lost, there will also be a few warning lights come up but they will disappear within a couple of hundred metres.
The infotainment system will retain any codes in the ECU so no problem there.
Have you checked the resting voltage of the car battery?

Auto windows reset also!

Strange - it looks like the fuel gauge is still reading with the key removed? It's as though maybe one of the switches in the 'ignition' switch is sticking on?

Hi

Just wondering if you have suffered a broken wire in the tailgate loom, usually at the point of maximum flexure i.e. the short rubber covered bit between the body and the tailgate frame.

That would be my guess, the car's ignition is on and thats why its complaining about there being no key in the car as it should do.

The question should be, why is the ignition staying on/coming on by itself, not regarding the key warning, that part is normal.

I take it this car is a keyless ignition type? whats the mileage?

Have you checked the key fob battery ... I used to have a Golf that moaned about the key when the fob battery was low ... easy to check.

It's not keyless I.e. you need to put the key in the ignition "old skool" - cars done 57k

I would start at the ignition barrel then.

for reference the battery in the key is just for the remote locking transmitter. Cars with a physical ignition barrel read the immobiliser chip at close proximity.
