Help Please

Thanks to members who have replied to my earlier post.

Having investigated further, the dashboard symbol is a yellow seat belt/airbag warning light, that disappears when engine is started, then remains on when vehicle is driven.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ian

Advice please.
Seat belt indicator light remains on when vehicle is started and driven.
Is this something that I can investigate and fix, or does it need to be looked at by a specialist.
Thanks for help.

There are two different symbols there:

A red symbol that is lit when you turn the ignition on and turns off after 5 seconds. This symbol is a reminder to use your seat belt. If you haven't fasten it, it's accompanied with a brief sound warning.

A yellow symbol for the airbags. It is lit when you turn the ignition on for a brief period and if anything is normal it should turn off. If after starting the engine it stays on, it shows some malfunction of the airbags system.

Read the manual, it's still available for downloading (free) from Skoda.

If the red seat belt symbol is on while driving and wearing the seatbelt then the buckle needs to be fixed or replaced. It has a switch / contact in it that makes that issue, or the cable that goes underneath the seat to the buckle has a split.

If the yellow airbag light is on then there are three possible causes.

1. The fuse is blown

2. The wire or the switch underneath the seat is broken, or even a split cable within driver's door bellow.

3. The steering column clockspring is faulty and needs to be replaced.

There are more than 3 possibilities, numbers 2 and 3 are the most probable.

Indeed. I meant that these are the three easiest and most common.

Thanks to all who replied re my airbag warning light problem.  The cause appears to have been a disturbed wire, when something became stuck under the passenger seat, causing the fault light to come on.

My garage used their diagnostic kit to reset the airbag warning system and all is now OK.
