Wanted: Symphony Head Unit

Featured Replies

Yep that's right! - I'm looking for a Symphony head unit...

What's wanted is the radio/CD slot (no cassette) moble to replace the standard radio/cassette model that is fitted into my wife's Fabia Classic.

If anyone has one of the Fabia size units available I'd be very interested - she's not interested in the sound quality, as long as she can play CD's, therefore why fit anything else - a simple swap should be all that's needed, about 3min works!

That may be 3 min + a visit to the dealer. I wonder whether the HUs are keyed to the electronics in the car and cannot be swapped between cars. Worth finding out before you take the plunge.

Howard, mine is coded to the car, there is no seperate keycode as such.

I believe they can be re-programmed by the dealer, with the appropriate proof of ownership etc.

AFAIK, the HUs are coded to the ECU. If it doesn't recognise the car, though, it will ask for a code, which a dealer will be able to find in seconds.

As Geoff says, methinks the dealer might want to know how you came by the Symphony before divulging such information...

I think that goes wothout saying, although I'm sure some are less stringent than others. It makes a mockery of the whole system, IMHO, that the codes can be recovered at all - if they've put a "back door" in, it will be / has been found. Oh well.

I submitted my post before reading Geoff's contribution.

Although I don't think anyone would actually bother...

"back door"

I have an excellant relationship with my dealer so don't see this as a problem - but am not willing to pay them to source such a unit!

It's OK, it wasn't one of Jason's posts. :D

But the symphony head-unit doesn't have a CD slot. It has a tape slot but can control a CD-changer.

I guess you'll be looking for one of the new single-slot CD players than come with Fabias these days. Are they called symphony as well?.

Yes, they are... :)

Rob.

That's confusing.

Couldn't they have come up with some more names like: Concerto, Sonnet or ditty or something?

:)

Or just plain 'Crap' - that would be accurate. :D
