Passenger side water leak - coming in from scuttle area ?

Featured Replies

I posted a few months back about an ongoing water leak issue on my 2011 1.2TSi Estate.  I've tried numerous things over the course of that time to try and pinpoint/locate this water leak but have so far failed.

The water is only entering the passengers side and appears to be coming in the scuttle area as the sound deadening on that side gets wet from underneath. The drivers side remains dry no matter what.

What I have ascertained is this

If the car is parked on an angle (my side drive has a small slope) with the passengers side at the highest point, no water enters the car.  If I turn the car round so the passenger side is lower, the car fills with water and quite a lot of it - last time I tested it, there was about 2 inches of water made its way in over a couple of days of heavy rain.

I removed the plastic trim and wipers and checked the drains on both side - water exits freely through the wings.  Are there any other drain points in that area that I might have missed?

I thought the area where the wiring loom leaves the engine bay and enters the car might have been the culprit as the seal looked a bit suspect, so I attempted to use some all weather sealer to see if this would stop the water.  Either I've not been successful or that's not the issue.

Can water enter where the air recirculating flap is?  The protective shroud is in place and would suggest the water is directed down either side and into the drains.  Is this flap supposed to close tightly when its not in use? or should there be a tiny gap?

Its really frustrating as I can't use the car and the MOT is due.  The passenger seat is currently out, and the carpet and insulation is up and out of the way to stop it getting repeatedly soaked.

I've removed the top glove box to try and see whats going on but I understand you can't remove the main one without taking the dash out which I don't want to attempt.

Many Thanks,

Duncan
