On mine the both the normal boot-light and torch-light switch off as soon as the tailgate is closed.

It doubles as a rechargeable torch so make sure it's switched off and then it will go on/off with the boot.

There must be a magnetic switch in the torch, if on either of the 2 brightnesses the torch switches off when about ½" from putting in the holder.

Mine is a great boot light but rubbish torch.  Batteries are shot. I guess 3 x AAA rechargables will sort it.

Any particular battery chemistry?

Ni-MH as they are on almost continuous charge.
1.2v NiMH AAA 300mAh

Thank you

You may need to use a bit of sticky stuff to hold the two magnetic strips in position. The batteries have a habit of repositioning them 🤣

There is only one in mine unless they are stuck together☹️

Yes there's two mine, I reckon they could be stuck together, its couple of years ago since I opened mine and I think were stuck together.
