Door lock override

Featured Replies

My Good Lady Wife suffers from claustrophobia. Since I (like a fool) demonstrated the anti theft locking system on the Octavia to her whenever she waits in the car for me to pay for fuel etc she insists on sitting with the door open just in case it locks on her. I have tried getting her to hang on to the remote but that doesn

Im assuming you mean the self arming of the alarm?

It will only do it if the car is locked then unlocked and a door isnt opened.

Leave the key in the ignition then?

Just don't unlock the doors then not open any.

Can't see why it would autolock as assuming yours is a MK I mine only autolocks if i unlock the car then don't open a door within a given time.

Pull the door handle twice opens the door form inside when anti-hijack option is enabled.

2nd Part of same problem:

I would not like to leave the key in the ignition and I do not think my insurance Company would like it either.

I have the habit of locking the car as I walk away. This is her main fear.

I have also demonstrated to her that (if I remembered) I could press the remote lock twice then all she has to do is pull the door handle twice to open the door.

If nothing better comes up what I intend to do is fix a remote less the key to the inside of the passengers glove box and paint the 'unlock' button red.

Give your wife the spare key so she can press the 'unlock' if she gets scared.

It may be enough to make her feel calm/in control of things, depending on how her claustrophobia is 'triggered'.

By the sound of it your wife has good reason to worry if you are in the habit of locking the car as you walk away and she might be in it. Can I suggest that you use the car key rather than the remote control to lock the car from now on. That way you will at least be looking into the car as you lock it and stand a reasonable chance of noticing that she is still in the car. Locking someone in a car from the outside could be downright dangerous in the wrong circumstances, especially as the windows and sunroof won't operate.

You're right.

I must do better. I must do better. I mus........... ..... ....

Sorry Will; I thought you were saying that your wife was in the car at the time? If so, why should the insewerants company object to you leaving the key in the ignition? I'm not intending to be unsympathetic or unhelpful; just to make the cheapest suggestion for a fix.

If someone jumps in the drivers seat and makes off then I contributed to the loss of car. Not to mention the loss of MGLW!!! She is not insured and cannot drive (or fight).

Press the lock button twice in less than 10 seconds. The car can be opened from inside

Give her an emergency glass breaker hammer.

Failing that just stop locking your car perhaps with her in it.
