How do you replace the spark plugs?

Featured Replies

I'm a nub when it comes to car mantainance. I've only just replaced my first air filter with a K&N panel filter (car service people took it out the K&N forcing me to replace it ). Even then I was worried that I would do it wrong.

I've had a look under the bonnet to find the plugs but didn't even manage that. Could someone tell me how to change them? I'm asumme that the ones that were fitted on the service will be crappy bog standard ones.

Also anyone got pictures of them?

Fabia 1.4 16v 100 BHP

if they changed the plugs during the last service then dont bother!!!!

the 'bog standard' plugs are high quality multi-electrode ones

putting 'go faster' plugs in doen't make the slightest difference to performance, but fitting the wrong plugs will reduce performance.

Plugs are usually replaced every 40,000 miles

Dont fit after market spark plugs... the original ones are alot better.. they ones on the Fabia 1.4 16V have 3 pins.. make sure u get that.. and as for where they're...under the engine cover in the front .. u just need to look closer lol.. i guess they're in a red tube.. i replaced them a long time ago... and didnt notice a difference in performance... but if urs are in a bad condition go for original ones coz they will give u the best MPG n performance..

Thanks for the reply. I took a look when I removed the airbox. I noticed a stip of plastic (grey) near the back that looked like it maybe holding the spark plugs in. I prolly won't change the plugs then. I really just wanted to know that I could more than anything.

They'll be sticking out of the top front of the engine block with 4 HT leads connecting to them.

maybe,

some of them dont have ht leads, they have individual coils like the bigger engines which are mounted directly over the spark plug holes.

the 1.8T doesn't have HT leads :)

don't know about the 1.4 16v though.
