New (to me) Karoq service schedule

Featured Replies

Hello all

Ive got the ball rolling on buying the following car this week

Karoq 1.5 TSI SE DSG - 2020 plate

Now I’m slightly confused by Skoda service intervals.

The car is coming from a non-Skoda but nonetheless well-known dealer network. It was registered in August 2020. The only evidence they are providing me thus far is of a service by them in November 2022.

The service included oil filter and oil with part number ZGB115QL801505

Should I have alarm bells ringing re what I can thus far evidence as it’s first service?  They are assuring me this is fine with new Skodas and their long-service intervals…(?)

The car has 5 months of Skoda warranty left on it. If this has gone over on its service, would the warranty still even be covered?

Any advice appreciated 🙂

Should have added that the first service was done in November 2022 with a mileage of 10k

Welcome.

It left the factory set for a Variable Service Interval.

If left on that at the PDI that was 24 months / 18,000-20,000 miles to the first service.

So

August 2022 was when due.     That was & Oil & Filter service & a Pollen Filter.  (If the pollen filter gets done, some might opt not to.)

Hopefully your Manufacturers Warranty is valid.   If serviced with the correct parts / fluids, record of it etc even if 500 miles / 4 weeks over the time.

?

Do you have a Warranty with the car other than the remainder of the Manufacturers Warranty from where you bought it?

If buying a new warranty be sure that the seller accepts servicing is as required in the past 3 years.

Oil & Inspection services @ 1 year & 2 & 3 & Extended Scope @ 3 years.  (Fixed Interval Servicing.)

Or First Service @ 2 years / Miles & then maybe 2nd at 3 Years in the UK before Warranty Expires, MOT done.

The Manufacturer as in Skoda & then Skoda UK not that clear on their Guidelines, Recommendations or Schedules, even with 'Skoda Approved Cars that have FMDSH's.

** Your cars might well have had sufficient servicing with only 10,000 miles in 26-27 months if the last weeks or months were 'In trade' / At the garage.

only a warranty claim might need that proving.**

Thanks this is very useful.

Im buying the car on the basis that it still includes manufacturers warranty. I suppose there is no way of testing that, assuming an 27 month first oil change, other than with a claim, which is less than ideal.

I will go back to the dealer and insist on either evidence from them that there was a service prior, or that otherwise they will cover the warranty period.

Would be a shame if I have to turn this down as I was quite keen on having a Karoq.!

You are going to be on a sticky wicket with the warranty over the servicing.

There is a few weeks grace (normally a month) because dealer's can't always book it in straight away.  There were special exemptions during the initial lockdown periods because dealers were shut.

Strictly delaying the service 2-3 months means it wasn't serviced in accordance with requirements.   They are wrong to advertise it as having balance of manufactures warranty if they know it has been invalidated.

If you read the Manufacturers Warranty & Terms & Conditions & Servicing as linked above this is different from the 'Used car extended Warranty'. BOOKLET.

That is where the 500 miles / 4 weeks is in the terms.

If Skoda / VW UK were really to be concerned over a car 27 months since registered in the UK with only 10,000 miles not having had an oil change they need to think of the cars they imported that spent months, many months part built and bunkered on runways with engines, gearboxes, haldex with oil in and even AdBlue before ever getting to the UK.

When a car gets to having a 2 years service it could be near 3 years old, or the fluids in it could be since filled.

Spoken to Skoda. No trace of a service their side.

So I’m going with first service at 27 months independently done. Which there is paperwork for.

skoda say the warranty has therefore expired.

I have then spoken to Skoda extended warranty. They say they would warranty it and wouldn’t generically penalise me for the service being delayed. So I could obtain an extended warranty from them from august.

Caveat being they said that so long as the warranty claim in question isn’t due to the delayed service… Which could be an issue if the engine went…

I will see if the dealer will warranty it until August to cover the period.
