2002 vrs. few questions if anyones got some answers

Recommended Posts

Howdy all, i brought a 2002 octavia vrs off my mate a few months ago, he brought it already modified to 260bhp and i just had a few little queries on it now which hopefully some of you specialists will know;

1) Both back doors dont open from the outside, the bolt needs popping up from the inside first. Ive had the door cards off and tbf dont really know what im looking at, nothing really looks out of place or broken. Is this what i need to change? Simple change if so? Ive changed both front window mechs as they were typically broken, same as my rears so want to do all at the same time when cards come off again.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203606677255?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A12uwSWSuDRv-mVQd6ry_ycw84&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=203606677255&targetid=1816181028419&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045058&poi=&campaignid=19090194174&mkgroupid=147009364227&rlsatarget=aud-1657461045788:pla-1816181028419&abcId=9303860&merchantid=7237304&gclid=Cj0KCQjwocShBhCOARIsAFVYq0heyHy1kREt2biT6MtrHuxd9ZiDz3LO7Aw9sYWhQWrq_XRfSFXXTNgaAhcXEALw_wcB

2, Clutch pedal is spongey, i am assuming this is just a fluid replace? any recommendations on which. I think its all still stock down there. And is the clutch bite normally so high, its always been on my mind.

3, Every so often (and its very random, days/weeks apart) it will idle really boggy and sound like its struggling to keep going, even if ive been driving 30mins prior. but its hard to get a vid to show as it typically sorts itself out -_-

Thanks for reading and thanks for any advice/tips, ive only owned 1 car prior and its alot newer, but nowhere near as fun!

  1. How about learning to strip all the tracking cluff off FleaBay URLs? This would do it - http:// https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203606677255
  2. I can't comment on "spongy" beyond that that might be fluid and might just be needing bleeding. You have the car and I don't. I can say that mine has a nice high clutch, good for racing changes.
  3. Pass.

Welcome to the site.  I can't claim to be a specialist, there are better qualified people on here for that!

Having said that, I've had the same issue on both rear doors. Each time it was the wiring between the door and car that passes through the rubber tube.  I repaired the snapped wire and they have worked fine since.  This might not cure yours but have a look as it's a relatively simple fix.  The same thing happens on our other car between the car and tailgate.  After a while one of the wires snaps and needs repairing.

My bodged attempt is here on page 13

I can't really help with the clutch, it's not something I tend to mess around with.  I usually leave that up to my friendly garage to sort.

As for the rough idling, it could be one of many things.  Are there any air leaks in the system? I had a similar issue and there was a split breather pipe.  Having said that, it could be coil packs as that has happened to me on a previous Octavia.

Also, what mods do you have on the car?  To get to 260bhp there must be a few.   I'm assuming it has a different turbo, injectors and fuel pump to reach those figures as well as an uprated clutch as the standard components rarely manage to get to those numbers. Depending on what modifications you have it could be one of those that's causing the rough running.

Hope you get sorted.

Once the weather gets better i will get it off properly as need to replace back window mechs anyways

I dont believe there to be any air leaks but i will just get it into the garage if it persists.

As for mods he believes a k04 and BAM injectors but unsure of anything else, the only piece of helpful paperwork i have with it is the dyno sheet.

Thanks for the link and response fella
