7.5J 18" wheel as a spare on Superb mk3

Featured Replies

I have a set of four 18" 7.5J alloy wheels from Superb mk2. And my Superb mk3 came with a space saver wheel, which I do not like at all :). So I have been considering using one of my mk2 alloy wheels as a spare. I would get a new 235/45 tire fitted and this way would have a "proper" full size spare wheel. There is a small difference in ET 44 vs 46 however and this makes me wonder if this is a deal breaker or not? Woudl it be safe to travel  200-300 miles for instance, on such spare wheel?

What are your thoughts?

for driving, don't think you'll able notice that 2mm ET diff
BUT, boot floor will be pushed 3cm up by 235/**r** wider tire

This is odd, as I tried my 225/40 R18 and it was fitting perfectly. Extra 10mm shouldn't make much of a difference, and I could always lift the floor with some plywood... I guess, I will have to take of one of my wheels and test it again :)

So I checked it today, and with 225/40R18 I am about 12mm above the floor level.

So with a bit of a scrap plywood (2x12mm) I should be able to fit 235/45R18. I am very tempted to get it sorted as I hate the idea of space saver (still better than the repair kit).
