Strange aircon question!

Featured Replies

I noticed today that the aircon speeds up whenever you engage reverse!! Is it meant to do this? I had the dial on number 3 with a/c turned on and was stationary on the drive. By just selecting reverse (didn't even need to release the clutch) the a/c noticably speeds up!! I tried the other gears but it only does this in reverse!! Does anyone else have this feature?!

It doesn't speed up, it switches to recirc mode ;)

yup as Chris said... when in reverse it turns Air-Recirc on to stop exhaust fumes entering the cabin when reversing.

Another nifty trick it does when going into reverse... if front wipers are on then reverse is selected it will wipe your back window automatically... clever cars

Thanks for that guys, you learn something every day! However I'm not really sure of the benefit! Surely more fumes are pulled in from other cars, especially when stuck in traffic?

Yep I'm pretty dubious about it too as you'd have to be going some to get any noticeable fumes coming in the cabin
