MonkeyHanger's our resident Clifford expert. Seems to be offline (rare event) at the moment, but I'm sure he'll pop up later with an answer for you.

How do you rate the Clifford 500 over other alarms then ?

I've only ever had experience with Toad and found them reliable although the immob on mine did fail but they replaced it free of charge for a new unit, came out to where i was working too!

Anyway, i wanted a decent alarm for the RS, what do you recommend ?

The Dog's Dangly bits....but that's a personal opinion. I've seen good & bad opinions on it, same as just about any other alarm system.

The RS is my first new car, so i thought i'd splash out on a top quality system. One of the main attractions is the exterior proximity sensor. It chirps if someone lingers too close to the car. Now as with most alarms, people tend to ignore them, but i know what my alarm sounds like, and i don't ignore it ;)

It also has anti-hijack (Blackjax) which you can switch on and of as needed. Handy if you're planning to pass through any "iffy" areas.

Nothing wrong with Toad stuff either, but i've used Clifford alarms and the same fitter for the last 7 or 8 years, so i plan to stick with them.

I'd be looking for a discount on the old range then ;)

I did and wish I hadn't now big rip off merchants found out this when I got someone to rip out my alarm when I wrote off my car and he told me he could have fitted it for

You should have asked me about GAP first.

I said they fitted the alarm to the Astra, i did NOT recommend them.

I suggest you PM vRS_Si and ask him what i told him in PM.

DO NOT LET GAP FIT ANYTHING!!!

GAP are an agency and do not have any technical know-how. They jus sell the alarm systems and get cowboys to fit it!

It is almost impossible to have a Clifford fitted properly in one day and by a mobile person.

I've owned the Concept 100 and 400 systems and they r fantastic alrams. They MUST be fitted properly or else they jus false alarm all the time.

To find a decent alarm fitter u will need to ask around and get someone recommended.

I'll be goin Clifford again in the coming weeks. Jus got my Octy RS on Sunday. I'll probably go for a Concept 400 and get it upgraded to 500 spec and save myself
