Modifactions to Diesels

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

looking for some guidance as to what mods to do to my diesel vrs.

i’m thinking:

egr&dpf delete - any point doing this?

remap

maybe put coilovers on but never driven a car with these so not sure how hard the ride is, I drive on some crappy roads for work sometimes but 90% motorway etc.

No point on a induction kit and is there any point in custom exhaust?

i want to put those swiping indicators on it and change the mirrors to black, maybe wrap roof black not sure if that will be too much though!

what do you guys think?

dont know a great deal about cars but every day is a school day!

Welcome.

Deleting the DPF is illegal but then who cares, well your insurance company do because you will be declaring the remap but not the illegal removal of the DPF.

Never much point doing stuff that your insurance / loss adjusters can catch you out on and posting on forums.

Even more so helping them with your registration number.

Welcome,

Edited the post to remove the reg photo as requested.

I had an old pd170 diesel in a superb MKII. I had a stg1 remap on it. It was enough :)

Previous tinkering days it's a slippery slope, change one, another suffers, or you begin to think it is and so you swap it out.

I'd do a mild stage 1 remap and leave it at that.

DPF only really an issue if you do lots of short journeys. I had it block once for limp mode, bizarrely rolling onto a ferry from Ireland on a bank holiday. fun wait in north wales. Could not clear it, rac and tuner at the time said ok to drive it back to sheffield gently. Came to it the next morning and nothing was wrong, popped it down for a checkup and yep all was fine.

I'd not delete it as it throws up a whole raft of issues on MOT and potentially reselling.

I agree with all those here expressing conservative views and also of course the legal issues.

There are a lot of things one can do to an Octavia that are subtle. Your engine bay says a lot about how you care for your car. In there however, are lots of opportunities to change nuts and screws that are looking past their best.

Long as you don't do silly attention grabbing nonsense you can keep your Octy looking as nice as it is for a long time. Familiarise yourself with areas in which you might want to replace the part or perhaps change the colour of the leds in part of your instrument cluster, uprate the carpets. See if you can improve sound insulation coming from the road. You might like to change the shocks and springs. However, whilst changing them may not cost you a hike to your insurance you still need to talk to your insurance and make sure they know you are not putting on parts which are not so suitable for road use. A stage 1 remap is discreet, but for the extra you might get on stage 2, is, to be honest, a trade of whether you think the extra performance is worth it, likeable, and indeed agreeable with the insurance. People who do stage 2 get caught out not declaring, stage 1 is invisible. One might buy a car with stage 1 without realising it. At present, its not necessary to declare it to DVLA.

I wouldn't wrap the top half of the car. I think that would really spoil the super clean lines shown off in this lovely shade of white.
