What is maxidot?

Featured Replies

Hi

I am shortly going to order a new octavia VRs and was wondering what the maxidot option actually was? Do I need this to get the trip mpg, average mpg etc...?

I thought that that was farily standard stuff these days since my last two cars (Golf / TT) both had it...?

Other options I am going for are:

18" wheels

Dual zone climate & rear electric windows

Cruise control

Anything else I should get that I will regret if I don't???

Cheers

John

The maxidot computer is basically a nicer high resolution version of the standard trip computer that can also allow you change various setting like light assist etc. It can also display text like 'please refuel' or 'Fasten seat belt' and it can be set to display the radio station name, CD/track number and volume etc. It's well worth the extra money in my opinion.

For the sake of £90 it is well worthwhile, also displays if any doors etc aren't shut properly etc. SWMBO as just got a vRS with the same spec you mention and maxidot, she also went for the rear parking sensors which I also think are well worthwhile given rear visibility and size of car.

So as standard you get the trip computer that gives you mpg, average mpg etc?

Since I want the car ASAP it is really a matter of whether one that has the rest of the spec I outlinned above has it or not. It's not really the money issue . i.e the extra 90 quid...

Is the front armrest standard? I assumed it was...

If you have the Climate control, the armrest, complete with 'jumbo box' is standard as part of the package iirc.

I can assure you that you would regret not adding maxidot to your spec. It shouldn't delay the production of the car as it's simply a diiferent dash binacle as far as i'm aware.

I decided that the £90 was not worth the maxi-dot display and although there are ocassions when I think that it may have looked better, functionally it doesn't give me much more as I spend more time looking through the windscreen and the instrument dials.

Perhaps in hindsight I may have bought it but I certainly do not regret its absence. I'll be changing my car stereo eventually so any display benefits will disappear.

The parking sensors are useful but if you are careful and get to know the car's dimensions through some basic cautionary tests it isn't too long before the limited visibility stops being such a problem. In addition it prevents the bumpers from looking like they've had inoculations as the circular sensors are a little unsightly. I've also heard that they are costly to repair or replace if the bumper is damaged. I guess you pay twice - once for the parking sensors and then again if they need to be repaired or replaced because you didn't take notice of them.

I am not buying a car awaiting production, - I am hoping to buy one currently already in the country and available to the dealer network. Just playing the dealers off to get the best price at the moment...

Jonno what kind of prices are you being offered?

I have found the dealers reluctant to move much, but I have placed my order via a broker. My standard vRS (Corrida Red no options) is being supplied at
