lights keep turning themselves on

Featured Replies

Hi :)

I have a 2000 Fabia, and just recently I've noticed the rear number plate lights come on on their own. After further investigation, it seems to stem from the main headlight switch which also illuminates along with the cigarette lighter light, the triangular warning light and the heater/fan lights. This is all when the car is sitched off with the key out of the ignition. The really strange thing is that the problem seems worse at night, though this may be coincidence.

I can manage to get them to turn off by tapping the headlight switch, but very often they'll be back on some time later.

I'm hoping someone here might have come across this bizarre problem, and I'd be very aprieciative of any help.

many thanks :)

Deffo sounds like the switch is faulty , most of the switches will light up when the ignition is on anyway but it could be something in the switch causing them to be on when the ignition is off with the light switch off aswell

Thanks for replying so quick! Is the switch panel easy to pop out to check for problems? I'd prefer to avoid a costly trip to the garage at the moment...

To remove the headlight switch, just press it in and turn it clockwise. This releases the clips and allows you to pull it out.

Thanks for the tip Alan :) I took the switch out and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the wiring or plugs. I unplugged the panel and put it all together again and its still coming on. Plus by now it had drained my battery, so I've removed the fuse for the number plate lights for now. So its probably a worn switch, and I'm guessing you have to buy the entire panel/switch assembly. If you know of any good places to get them cheap I'd be super grateful.

Thanks for all the help so far :)
