Mk2 VRs diesel not starting issue

Featured Replies

Was driving along and car cut out, just before then the oil, engine management and electronic stability lights started flashing. Left for about an hour and car started, drove about a mile and same happened again, this time no matter how long left it would not start, turns over and sounds like it wants to fire but nope.

Sent to garage who thought it was the fuse box as it had signs of water in it, replaced and apparently started, lowered ramp and it wouldn’t start again. Garage sent to an auto electrician who stripped down and found the air intake manifold was pretty carbonated up, they were happy to replace part at £1100 and would not fit a part I supplied so there ended the garages.

As they had taken off the air intake manifold I asked for them not to refit as I would try cleaning it. I did so and the valves definitely moved round a lot further than before. I then refitted it to the car and unfortunately no change, engine trying to fire but not taking.

have ran an OBD which gave the below faults, but once cleared nothing coming back, assume ones todo with air intake were triggered after it was removed.

Have disconnected the mass sensor and tried starting to no avail, have also unplugged other things one at a time and nothing made a difference.

Anyone experience this issue and have any recommendations. Trying not to spend a fortune on it as car has 195k on the clock so only worth 1-2k and already spent 1k on it for the investigations, also had to buy a new car due to commuting and travel for work.
