Noise during heavy braking... ?

Featured Replies

We have been on a 6000 Km summer holiday trip with the car
and during the trip there has been more and more a clear noise during heavy braking.

When braking hard from high speed, an unpleasant noise enters the passenger compartment.
The sound only appears when the speed decelerates between 110~80 Km/h.
No noise at higher speed and no noise at lower speed during braking.
The sound is very similar to the noise that occurs if you have warped brake discs
wooow  wooow  wooow  wooow  wooow......
( But the discs are definitely not warped )
Absolutely no vibrations or shaking in the car.

Right front tire is very very lightly feathered on the outside.

🤔  Any ideas on what could be wrong ?  🤔

Yes, the ABS system is working fine.

Have any of your tyres ever been repaired? I had something  similar once and it was the (badly) repaired tyre to blame.

No, never.

What I would do is remove each wheel in turn and inspect. Possibly a brake shield is corroded and falling off and resonating under the braking scenario.

All 4 brake shields is 100 % fine.

Check the inner surfaces of the discs the side you cant normally see. You might find its badly and unevenly corroded. Check brake pad condition at the same time.

Check the small securing bolt is fitted on the disc to hub and not loose.

Tighten wheel nuts to correct torque, iirc 120 Nm. Take for a test drive.

Still thinking its a faulty tyre though.
