Scala my23

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I test drove a my23 Scala monte carlo yesterday and loved it.

Should I be concerned about the travel assist recall? Is this really a big issue, or something that gets fixed if it's an issue?

What are everyone's thoughts on this car and the different models?

Thanks

I test drove a monte carlo and was impressed with the engine (1.5TSI) and the manual box it had. I didn't really want the other extras above the SE model so settled for the SE (with that super engine). I also found the ride on 17 inch wheels a little bumpy on the  lousy roads here so went for 16 inch. Don't know anything about the travel assist recall, but wouldn't be worried about it. My impression is that some of the software for the optional stuff and non essential comfort features can be a little flaky, but reading the posts here it seems to get fixed in the end.

Thanks John. How do you find your SE? Is that the signature edition with leather?

Well quite honestly I love the thing, and that is a comment I haven't made about a car in a very long time!

The version I have is the 2022 SE model, metallic paint, fabric seats, manual air con, no sat nav. - I use the iPhone which works well. Oh I invested in rubber mats for the thing - well worth while if you take rubbish to the local tip or use the car for visiting muddy places!

There are only two niggles that I have. 1)the front passenger seat does not full recline and the headrest gets in the way any any long stuff you you try and load. However the headrest can be removed by pressing the rear of the seat at the right spot -see Google. 2) the 1.5 engine is so smooth with lots of torque at low rev's that it is easy to find oneself drifting along quite happily at 10mph in 6th gear, the consequence is that when asked to accelerate the engine stalls without any warning.  Proper attention given to the rev. counter by the lazy driver would prevent this of course! The DSG would not allow this to happen and would, I imagine, produce a very, very good flexible power delivery.

As I said I opted for 16 inch wheels and the ride is good. My daughter and her husband have a SEAT Leon estate with the same engine/box as mine. It has 17 inch wheels and a stiffer suspension and I find the ride quite choppy. The car is heavier and bigger of course and they do fill it with a LOT of stuff.

My fuel consumption goes from 35mpg on the very local supermarket run, 50 something on a 10-20 mile trip along country A roads and 60+ on a decent motorway run.

Hope that helps

John

P.S. Check out the spare wheel options - mine came with a 'full sized spare wheel' rated for legal speeds. It's actually a 15 inch rim with a higher profile tyre. Other options are a can of squirty stuff or a speed limited space saver.

P.P.S If you intend to tow anything confirm that it will be legally rated for it - check the posts on here that deal with that.

A 'Full size spare'  but not a matching size spare to the 3 wheels / tyres that would be on the car or the one at the other side.

So regardless of no Yellow sticker restricting you to or warning 50 mph surely you would slow down when it is fitted.

When new it is 'green' and unscrubbed, the compound is different, the tread is different an the tyre pressure maybe.

& when you put it on reset the TPMS;   Simple stuff, but common sense.
