Air vent removal

Featured Replies

I need to replace one of the air vents, the ones thats on each end of the dashboard.

I have removed the surround, but the vent itself wont come out.

Any help will be appreciated.

One little bar each side of the fin. Just pop one out and the fin will be loose.

Planetse, its the whole vent itself that needs removing.

You can either remove fins or unit out of dash. Nothing else.

Different car and part but the video gives the approach I'd take, his channel also has loads of other useful vids and some on Mk3 Fabia. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgwpKi9zg8k

ETA: I've no idea where you'd want to start prying but I'd just use a plastic tool or tools (old kitchen food spatulas in my case) and experiment around the fitting to see where it grips and doesn't.

Good luck let us know how you get on.

This is a decent pry tool set for £5.99 delivered.

That's why I use old kitchen spatulas that are plastic as they wont mark and have some flexibility yet hopefully are robust enough for most stuff.

EnterName's kit looks good for the price.

Thanks every one, i got the pry tool set that EnterName suggested and removed the vent ok with it.

For anyone else needing to do this sort of thing, maybe get hold of a pair of hooked tools and insert them through to the back of the vent assembly, and pull both at the same time.

Some VW Group marques/models, have holes in the body of these vents there specifically to help with removing these vents, and so you just use a suitable L shaped or hooked tool to pull the vents out, I did that on my old 2011 Audi S4, initially using an suitably sized allen key gripped with pliers or visegrips, once I found examined the first one I removed, I used something more suitable to remove the next vent.
