Columbus replacement?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I Have a Columbus 5E0035045C on my 2015 Octavia and recently speakers have cut out on the right-hand side, and now the front left has gone as well. What can I replace this unit with? I have been quoted plenty for repairs so not really keen on that.

I don't want to change screens or anything else really, just want my sound back.

Do you have Canton? That is a separate amplifier, so if you have Canton the problem will be the amplifier not the glovebox unit.

As I said Canton is  separate amplifier, which can be added to Amundsen, Columbus, etc.

Is there any wording such as Canton on the speaker grille on the front doors?

If not then the glovebox unit is the problem, if there is Canton written on the front speaker grille then the problem is the separate amplifier.

No, speakers are blank. So is their anything that replaces that unit in glove box? Seen a lot of info about screens but nothing about that.

Best person to answer that is @pab567

So you have Columbus MIB1 and I assume you have no CANTON (pls post VIN to double check). This probably is a typical failure of dry joints in power amplifier chips, it can be repaired by resoldering the pins on both power chips. It helps in 80% of th ecases. If it doesn't help then unfortunately both chips must be replaced.

Alternatively, you can replace glove box unit either with MIB2 Amundsen or MIB2 Columbus as they both work OK with your display unit (5E0919606).

As expected - Columbus MIB1, no CANTON, so yu either must have it repaired or retrofit MIB2 unit (Amundsen or Columbus). If you are interested in retrofit then pls contact me on PM.

Have never seen any video of this but if you are familiar with soldering you should not have any issue.
